Get Some Reusable Shopping Bags

Posted by Daily Green Ideas | Monday, November 09, 2009 | ,

Plastic shopping bags have a huge negative impact on our environment. Did you know that over 750 billion plastic grocery bags are used worldwide each year? These plastic grocery bags take over 500 years to degrade and many end up being eaten by marine animals mistaking them for food. It also takes a lot of energy to create a plastic bag which in turn creates more pollution. Over 75 million barrels of oil are used per year just to make plastic shopping bags. You can help change this problem by buying reusable bags. If you are going shopping for a lot of groceries at once, just bring a few reusable bags along. Make sure to let your cashier know you brought your own bag/s or they might sack your groceries in a plastic or paper bag. Reusable bags generally cost only $1 to $2 each, so get a couple today and join the green revolution.
