Stop using chemicals to clean your toilet bowl and go green. You can clean your toilet just as efficiently by substituting white distilled vinegar for your regular toilet cleaner. Just pour approximately 2 cups of vinegar into your toilet. Let it sit for 20 minutes or so and flush. It's that easy! Check out the video below to see how it's done.

Bottled Water is not Better For You! Use Reverse Osmosis or a Water Distiller
Posted by Daily Green Ideas | Thursday, December 17, 2009 | Bottled Water, Pollution, Trash
Let us start off by saying that municipal city water is not healthy for you and contains high amounts of Fluoride and toxic metals. The sad truth is that most bottled water is no better than tap. This is explained in greater detail below. We encourage every health-conscious human being out there to install either a reverse osmosis system in their home or a water distiller. Either of these methods, reverse osmosis or a water distiller, will ensure your drinking water is safe for you and your family.
That being said, bottled water companies do not have your best interest at heart. They are in business to make money and money alone, and there is no oversight process as to whether their water is actually being cleaned or isn't. They are responsible for the oversight process, which obviously is a problem in itself. Federal regulations only require bottled water to be as clean as tap water, and there is virtually no oversight on bottled water companies by the federal government. That probably comes as a surprise to most people, and it should! Since it is cheaper for a company to not use the best methods for cleaning their water, such as reverse osmosis or water distillation, they generally don't.
With the production of 30 billion plastic bottles for bottled water in 2006 (and those numbers are going up each year!) and 17 million barrels of oil being used to create those bottles, which created 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide and pollution, people need to wake up to what they are doing to the planet. Why produce this much waste and pollution? Check out the video below on the bottled water industry, and let us know what you think!

With Christmas quickly approaching, you might be rushing around to buy those last-minute gifts. Here are a few ideas for eco-friendly Christmas gifts that won't break your budget.
1. Soy Candles
A soy candle is a great eco-friendly present that you can buy for under $10. Soy wax is biodegradable and is made from renewable sources. Paraffin wax candles are made from oil products and can produce dangerous toxic soot, hence the soy candle movement. Soy wax candles last longer and can provide more heat to your home in the winter.
2. Eco-Friendly Staplers
Eco-friendly staplers are a great gift for your green friend on Christmas. Instead of using metal staples to connect paper together, they cut and fold the paper so they stick together. This is very simple idea that could save tons of staples. You can find a green stapler at Eco-Friendly Staplers Online.
3. Organic Fruit Basket
Making your own organic fruit basket is a wonderful Christmas gift. Try getting organic fruit at your local farmer's market or health food store. Organic fruit tastes so good, you might convince someone else to start buying organic too! For more information on why buying organic food is so essential, read our article Organic Food for the Environment.
4. Solar Laptop Charger
A solar laptop bag or solar laptop charger is a great green gift for any techie in your family. They are essentially a small solar photovoltaic panel built to charge a laptop computer on the go. There are many different versions of these available. You can find them on Ebay or by simply googling solar laptop charger.

Eco-Friendly Christmas Tree Alternatives
Posted by Daily Green Ideas | Tuesday, December 08, 2009 | Green Christmas Tips, Green Holiday Tips
Since buying a Christmas tree, real or plastic, negatively impacts the environment, we are going to give some eco-friendly alternatives to the traditional Christmas tree. Christmas trees, real or fake, aren't eco-friendly when you consider that 96% of America's 308 million people will be using or purchasing one this season.
Fake Christmas trees are made of non-biodegradable plastics and are generally manufactured in China and then shipped overseas. The production of plastic Christmas trees contributes a ton of pollution and greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. On the other hand real trees, the greener alternative to a fake tree, also have to be cut down and regrown.
These trees take a few years to regrow and are generally sprayed with a lot of chemical pesticides in the process of growing. If purchasing a real tree this season, try opting for one with the roots intact. These can be replanted after the Christmas season and thus don't contribute to landfills. Also try looking for organic local growers. Organic growers don't use chemical pesticides or fertilizers that are detrimental to our environment.
So now for the good part! Here are some green alternatives to a traditional Christmas tree that provide fun for the whole family.

Green Tip: Hang a Towel up to Dry
Posted by Daily Green Ideas | Wednesday, December 02, 2009 | Electricity/Energy SavingsTowels always seem to take up the most space in the laundry hamper and aren't cheap to replace either. Here is a green tip that will help make your towels last longer, help the environment, and free up some space in that laundry hamper.
After showering or bathing, try hanging your towel up to dry instead of throwing it in the laundry. Towels can be used more than once after a shower and will dry by hanging it on the shower rod. Only fold it over once to leave more towel surface area to dry. This will help you save money on your utility bills and will prolong the longevity of your towels.

Save Some Gas and Some Green: Drive-Thrus Stink
Posted by Daily Green Ideas | Tuesday, December 01, 2009 | Pollution, Saving Fuel
Drive-thrus stink for the environment and for you, plain and simple. Just think of how much gas you would save by turning your car off and taking a walk inside to get your fast food. Studies show that no time is saved by going through a drive-thru versus walking in to purchase your fast food. Pollutants are being flung into the atmosphere and your gas gauge is going down when you sit in a line of 10 cars waiting for your food, so next time try going inside to help the environment and your pocketbook. More facts on idling and drive thrus can be found here. For more gas-saving tips, check out our article here Top 10 Gas Saving Tips.
